travel: the bywater, new orleans

I spent a good bit of time in the Bywater neighborhood during my visit to New Orleans. It was an area I knew I wanted to explore before I even arrived, which is why I decided to stay nearby.  It's quirky, gritty, artsy, eclectic and colorful--everything I love. The Bywater has experienced a renaissance since Hurricane Katrina, as it was one of the least hard-hit areas in the city. Artists and entrepreneurs have flocked to the neighborhood, and now it's home to some really great local dining spots: Elizabeth's, Satsuma Cafe, and Bacchanal Wine. Bacchanal Wine is a must--it's a really cool backyard spot where you can hangout and listen to authentic live New Orleans jazz music. Plus, the drinks and small plates are delicious!

Here are more photos of the area, which I highly recommend exploring the next time you head to NOLA.
